We knew we wanted to find the best budget backpacking sleeping pads as soon as we decided to backpack with the entire family into Second Beach at Olympic National Park. We did a lot of research on the best of the lower tier brands as we wanted to find something that wasn’t going to completely break the bank. The high end sleeping pads can get up to hundreds of dollars which seems kind of crazy for our kids, even for us for that matter. So her we are, doing the Moon Lence sleeping pad review, the best budget sleeping we could find for under $30.

Before we get too deep, if your not a reader, check out our video below of the Moon Lence Sleeping Pad review. It was our choice for the best budge backpacking sleeping pad. I didn’t get a lot of good photos of the Moon Lence sleeping pads, so you will be able to see more of them on the video below.

I did want to apologize real quick for the lack of really good photos. I usually pride myself on making sure I have good photos. I made sure to take the video as seen above and completely forgot about taking photos. We were definitely enthralled by the magic at Second Beach, which probably had something to do with me forgetting some photos. This place was magical, and easily made me forget about my “media” obligations. Which, in all honestly, I can’t even complain about.

The Moon Lence sleeping pad was a great deal at $20. I’m just going to say it, were not unhappy at ALL with this purchase. Not only did we use this for a sleeping pad for my wife, and 3 kids, but it also served as a great pad to sit in the sand without getting all sandy.

I know it’s hard to see, and my bad for not taking more photos, but you can see my wife and son sitting on the Moon Lence sleeping pad watching the tide roll in.

They were super easy to inflate and set up. Took 10-15 breaths and have a fantastically designed 2 way valve. When you blow air in, the air does not come out. This makes it possible to get 100% firmness on the sleeping pad, which is important. Some other sleeping pads I have blown up in the past let a tiny bit of air out when you go from blowing to plugging.

It’s a layered plug system. There are two plugs stacked, when you pull the top tab you can blow in without any air coming out. When you pull the bottom plug, it lets the air out. The plugs were a little hard to pull, which can be a good or bad thing. I like it better so it doesn’t pop off in the middle of the night.

Once blown up, we didn’t have any air escape the pad. They were as firm in the morning as they were when we blew them up. My kids both said they were comfortable and warm. My wife also reported the same. The temps ended up getting down to around 58 degrees Fahrenheit.

We also used the pads to sit out on the sand and watch the tide roll in. They were perfect for this use. Even if we only bought them for this use alone, it would have been worth it. I could see us using them to lay by a camp fire or away from the camp fire to look a the stars. Whether used as sleeping pads or just casual laying around pads, these were a great purchase.

We will definitely be getting our use out of them. For just under $20 the Moon Lence sleeping pads are an absolute steal. If you need a good budget backpacking sleeping pad, these might be your ticket. They are small enough to fit in a Nalgene bottle and very light. They rolled up really easy and fit right back in their bags after use. I would definitely recommend them as a purchase and you can do with basically no remorse at only $20.
